Samuel Fesenmeier, D.O., is a psychiatrist at City of Hope® Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center specializing in psycho-oncology and supportive cancer care at the City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center. Dr. Fesenmeier is dedicated to helping patients navigate the emotional and psychological challenges that can accompany a cancer diagnosis and treatment, with the goal of ensuring every patient feels heard, respected and supported throughout their journey.
His interest in medicine has always been rooted in caring for people during difficult moments in their lives. After serving as an Army psychiatrist, Dr. Fesenmeier was inspired by the resilience of patients facing serious illness and chose to focus on supporting individuals with cancer and their families. He values spending time getting to know each patient as a person and believes that meaningful healing begins when patients feel understood.
Dr. Fesenmeier is particularly interested in advances in artificial intelligence and precision medicine that may help personalize cancer care while improving quality of life. An undergraduate honors thesis exploring the creative intersection of biology and music through coding DNA into music first sparked his interest in the ways technology can be used to better understand and improve human health. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, golfing, snowboarding, running, hiking, exploring Southern California, and playing the piano and guitar.
