Supriyo Bhattacharya, Ph.D.
Developing advanced bioinformatic methods combining multiomics data with protein structure and dynamics information, structure and dynamics of intrinsically disordered protein complexes, computational drug discovery.
Associate Research Professor, Department of Diabetes and Cancer Discovery Science, Arthur Riggs Diabetes and Metabolism Research Institute within the Beckman Research Institute
Supriyo Bhattacharya, Ph.D. is assistant research professor in the Department of Diabetes and Cancer Discovery Science in the Arthur Riggs Diabetes and Metabolism Research Institute within the Beckman Research Institute at City of Hope.
Dr. Bhattacharya did his Batchelor studies at Indian Institute of Technology and received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from North Carolina State university. Following postdoctoral training at the laboratory of Nagarajan Vaidehi, Ph.D., Dr. Bhattacharya was appointed as assistant research professor at City of Hope.
Dr. Bhattacharya has dual expertise in protein structure and dynamics and advanced bioinformatics. He is passionate about developing methods at the interface of multiomics big data (i.e. from RNA-seq, CHIP-seq, mass spectrometry) and protein structure and translational dynamics. Connecting the evidence obtained from sequencing data (especially high precision methods such as long reads sequencing) with protein structural information (especially, harnessing AI techniques such as AlphaFold) has the potential to revolutionize our understanding of disease mechanisms.
Dr. Bhattacharya’s other area of interest is in understanding the mechanisms of interaction and dynamics of intrinsically disordered proteins and peptides (IDPs). He has developed computational methods utilizing experimental data and simulations to characterize the dynamics of IDPs and their interactions with cellular proteins. One unresolved problem in the field is how to design drugs targeting IDPs, many of which play critical roles in multiple diseases. Dr. Bhattacharya is applying his decade long expertise in computational drug discovery to address these challenging targets, as one of his research goals.
