At City of Hope, we offer our diabetes patients access to advanced medical and supportive care and opportunities to participate in clinical trials.
Diabetes Research Projects
Some of our past and current research projects include:
- Testing new therapeutic interventions that may prevent or delay the onset of type 1 diabetes
- Evaluating the role of beta cells in the development of diabetes to better understand the mechanisms of beta cell dysfunction in type 1 and type 2 diabetes
- Researching the role of T lymphocytes and immune processes in type 1 diabetes through the use of novel therapeutic tools, such as theranostics and immunological agents
- Exploring novel biomarkers that may help early detection of disease and prevention of diabetes complications
- Researching whether it may be possible to revive or replace the cells that make insulin and therefore relieve diabetes patients from insulin injections
- Studying the genetic fingerprinting of a new form of diabetes developed after cancer therapy
- Defining the impact of new generations of diabetes and obesity medications on the outcomes and survival of patients after cancer treatment
Diabetes Clinical Trials
Clinical trials — research studies that involve volunteer patients — are a crucial component to developing new, more effective diabetes treatments that save lives. Many of today’s standard therapies are based on the results of previous trials, some of which were initiated at City of Hope.
