M. James You, M.D., Ph.D., is a professor and the Chair of the Department of Pathology at City of Hope® and a Professor in the Department of Hematologic Malignancies Translational Sciences at the Beckman Research Institute at City of Hope National Medical Center.
Dr. You is a distinguished physician-scientist, whose career encompasses significant contributions to cancer genetics, molecular hematopathology, and translational oncology. With more than two decades of experience, Dr. You is a renowned expert in the field of hematopathology. He has received numerous awards for his research and teaching, with more than 150 peer-reviewed articles to his name. Before joining City of Hope, he held multiple leadership positions at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
Dr. You’s philosophy centers on connecting research insights to real-world care, treating every patient as an individual with unique physical, emotional and social needs and striving to provide more equitable access to cancer care for patients everywhere.
Board-certified in both anatomic pathology and hematology, Dr. You earned his medical degree at Zhejiang University School of Medicine in China and his Ph.D. at The University of Texas in Austin, Texas. He completed his postgraduate training at The University of Texas, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School.
His research focuses on modeling, mechanistic and translational studies of cancer. His research has advanced our understanding of tumor suppressor pathways, acute leukemias, lymphoma and the molecular mechanisms underlying hematologic malignancies.
