If a resident has taken the NAPLEX and CPJE but has not received test results, this period will be extended to 120 days.

Selection Process

Criteria for selection to the City of Hope Pharmacy Practice Residency Program include:
  • Academic record
Each residency candidate should possess a GPA of at least 3.0 and will be given the opportunity during the interview to address any significant findings in the academic record. Each residency candidate is asked to submit a copy of their pharmacy school transcript. All members of the Resident Selection Committee review this document.
  • Letters of reference
Each residency candidate is asked to submit three letters of reference as part of his or her application. All members of the Resident Selection Committee review these documents.
  • Resident’s Statement of Intent
Each residency candidate is asked to submit a personal statement of intent for the City of Hope PGY2 Medication-Use Safety and Policy Residency. All members of the Resident Selection Committee review this document
  • Performance during interview
Each residency candidate who has passed the other selection requirements is granted an interview, where he/she is asked a series of questions. Each response is rated on verbal communication skills, poise and personal presentation, leadership abilities, professional competence, and degree of match between the resident’s needs and that of the program.

Resident Selection Committee

The Resident Selection Committee is responsible for interviewing and reviewing application materials of each residency candidate. This committee consists of selected preceptors and members of the residency management team.

Following the review of interview results and all documents in the application process, each member of the Resident Selection Committee ranks each candidate. The committee reviews the final results and ranks the individual candidates for the National Matching Program.
