A board-certified anatomic and clinical pathologist at City of Hope® Cancer Center Phoenix, Deepa Bassi, M.D., works with multidisciplinary cancer care teams to provide timely pathology reports that ensure our patients receive full, accurate cancer diagnoses that can help determine an effective treatment plan.
Dr. Bassi sees her role in cancer care as a guiding hand. Working in the laboratory, she ensures that tests and tissue samples are analyzed and evaluated fully and accurately, supporting surgeons, medical oncologists and other specialists as they craft an individualized cancer care plan for their patients. Her work also involves analyzing tumors after their removal to determine whether they have positive margins of cancerous tissue, helping care teams monitor the patient’s progress and adapt treatment plans when necessary.
After earning a medical degree and post-graduate degree in pathology at Kasturba Medical College in Manipal, India, Dr. Bassi completed one year of an anatomic and clinical pathology residency at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, then finished her residency in pathology and her fellowship in surgical pathology, both at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.
A member of multiple professional organizations, including the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the College of American Pathologists, Dr. Bassi has also published her research in multiple peer-reviewed journals and presented on her work around the country.
