Chicago-Area Colorectal Cancer Screenings

Rapid Access to Colorectal Cancer Screenings

In the United States:

  • 1 in 23 men and 1 in 25 women will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in their lifetime
  • 1 in 3 adults ages 45 to 75 are not getting screened as recommended

In Illinois, the incidence rate for colorectal cancer is higher than the national average, with 6,110 new cases and 2,020 deaths expected in 2025. Additionally, only 63% of Illinois residents aged 45 and older are up to date with their recommended colorectal cancer screenings, compared with the national average of 65%. Just north of the border in Wisconsin, the American Cancer Society estimates 2,630 new cases and 840 deaths from the disease in 2025.

A glance at these statistics shows there’s work to do. City of Hope® Cancer Center Chicago in Lake County, Illinois, just minutes from the Illinois/Wisconsin state line, is helping to close the gap on colorectal cancer screenings, with colonoscopy appointments available in as little as one week.
