Our medical oncology team has decades of experience treating patients in the North Shore with a variety of cancer types, including breast, prostate and lung. They work together to develop a custom treatment plan based on your unique cancer type and stage, while also considering your personal and religious beliefs and goals.
During your initial consultation, your medical oncologist will discuss if any diagnostic testing is necessary, your options and next steps.
Our team has more than 30 years of experience treating all blood cancers, including leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma. If your treatment plan requires chemotherapy, hormone therapy or targeted therapy, we offer convenient onsite infusion therapy.
More advanced services, such as stem cell transplants or CAR T cell therapy are available at our hospital in Zion.
Our surgical oncology team has decades of experience treating a variety of cancer types, including breast, parathyroid and thyroid cancers, as well as melanoma and sarcomas. We also offer surgical consultations and recommendations if you are at high risk of developing breast cancer.
While advanced surgeries are performed at our hospital in Zion, several outpatient procedures may be performed onsite, including biopsies and excisions.
If your treatment plan includes chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy or other intravenous treatments, we offer outpatient infusion therapy. Our infusion bays are designed for relaxation and comfort.
Additionally, we also offer infusions for noncancerous conditions, including anemia or low iron.
Some women may be at an increased risk of developing breast cancer due to their family history, ancestry or being a carrier of certain genetic mutations, for example. Our North Shore High-Risk Breast Program helps individuals understand their risk of developing breast cancer and provides an individualized approach to screening, preventative lifestyle changes, monitoring and proactive treatment.
An estimated 200 residents in the North Shore area will be diagnosed with breast cancer each year. Screening mammograms may help catch breast cancer early when more treatment options are available.
We offer digital breast tomosynthesis (3D mammogram) and ultrasound to qualifying patients to screen for breast cancer. Should a test indicate anything suspicious, our staff explore further diagnostic options with you. Additionally, we offer diagnostic screenings if you already have a suspicious result and are seeking quick answers.
A bone marrow biopsy may be required to help diagnose a blood disorder or blood cancer or to determine the effectiveness of cancer treatment. They also may be needed for genetic testing. If you need a bone marrow biopsy, our expert staff will discuss with you what to expect and answer any questions you may have about the procedure or test results.
If you have a family history of cancer, you may be at an increased risk of developing cancer. We offer genetic counseling and testing to help you understand your inherited cancer risk and strategies to protect your long-term health.
If you are already diagnosed with cancer, test results may help your doctors develop a more targeted care plan.
The doctors at City of Hope Cancer Care North Shore collaborate regularly with supportive care providers to identify services that may help address cancer symptoms and treatment side effects. These services, such as nutritional support, pain management and emotional support may be recommended to you to help you remain strong during and after treatment and improve your quality of life.
If you require specialty surgery services, such as urologic or gynecologic cancer surgeries, or breast reconstructive options, our Illinois hospital less than an hour away is available to you. Our surgeons are experts in advanced surgical options, including oncoplastic breast reconstruction, hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy and robotic surgery.
