Amir Esparza, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a colorectal surgeon whose career has been shaped by a lifelong commitment to service and the belief that compassionate, high quality care transforms lives. He is double board certified in general surgery and colorectal surgery.
Coming from a family of physicians and influenced early on through humanitarian work, Dr. Esparza developed a deep understanding of the impact that accessible, skilled medical care has on patients and communities. This foundation led him to pursue colorectal surgery, a field that blends technical precision, oncologic complexity and meaningful improvements in quality of life.
Dr. Esparza brings expertise in robotic and minimally invasive colorectal cancer surgery, as well as the treatment of benign and malignant perianal disease and fecal incontinence. He has earned recognition for his leadership, serving as administrative chief resident at the University of Illinois Chicago and receiving the Outstanding Resident Leadership Award. His research focuses on robotic surgery innovation, particularly remote surgical techniques that expand access to expert care.
He completed medical school at the Pontific Catholic University of Ecuador, followed by general surgery residency at the University of Illinois Chicago and a colon and rectal surgery fellowship at Cook County Hospital. A dedicated humanitarian, he is a founding member and board member of the Sulayman Berjis Foundation, serving underserved communities in Ecuador and beyond.
