As a plastic surgeon with expertise in microsurgical reconstructive techniques, Bharat Ranganath, M.D., F.A.C.S., plays a vital role in many patients’ cancer journeys, helping them rebuild both appearance and function after undergoing surgery for cancer or other health issues.
Growing up in a family of physicians, Dr. Ranganath always knew he wanted to pursue a career in medicine in his quest to help patients feel and look whole again, offering them a sense of renewal after cancer or trauma. Using his expertise in microvascular surgical techniques for breast cancer, approaches to reconstructing extremities and head and neck trauma and options for treating both lymphedema and peripheral nerve damage, Dr. Ranganath helps patients conquer complex conditions and recover as fully as possible.
Dr. Ranganath earned his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His surgical training includes a general surgery internship and a plastic surgery residency, both completed at Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, Pennsylvania, as well as a microsurgery fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
A physician-scholar with more than 20 peer-reviewed publications to his name, Dr. Ranganath previously served as chief of plastic surgery and director of microsurgery at The George Washington University Hospital in the nation’s capital, where he was awarded the institute’s Teacher of the Year award.
