With more than 15 years’ experience as an orthopedic surgeon, David Hamming, M.D., offers patients at City of Hope® Cancer Center Chicago arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgical procedures designed to improve their mobility and quality of life while promoting faster recovery and reducing side effects.
Dr. Hamming believes in treating every patient as an individual with unique needs and health goals. He spends as much time with each patient as needed and seeks to be a compassionate, positive partner in determining the recommended course of treatment. His expertise includes stabilizing fractures and replacing joints that may have been affected by cancer or have developed as a result of a patient’s diagnosis.
After earning his medical degree at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, Dr. Hamming completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at Steadman Hawkins Clinic Denver in Colorado. He has also served as a team physician for the American Hockey League’s Chicago Wolves.
For more than 20 years, Dr. Hamming has written and presented on his scholarly work, which includes research into the application of murine bioreactor, how GROalpha is expressed in adenocarcinoma of the colon and how vascularized scaffolds generate novel host bone. He is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons.
