Kayla Lakin-Southern, D.O., considers herself “an emergency room physician to the core.” In her role as director of the Evaluation and Treatment Center (ETC) at City of Hope® Cancer Center Phoenix, she provides urgent and emergency care for patients who experience health challenges related to their cancer or its treatment.
As director of the ETC, Dr. Lakin-Southern treats medical issues ranging from pneumonia and mucositis to injuries, infections and cancer-related side effects affecting any part of the body. With her compassionate, communicative approach to care, she ensures patients feel seen and heard.
With a career spanning more than 40 years, Dr. Lakin-Southern has worked in family practice, women’s clinics, hospice care and other settings. She earned her medical degree from Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences in Tulsa, and completed an internship at Saginaw Osteopathic Hospital in Michigan. Dr. Lakin-Southern is a member of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians and the American Osteopathic Association.
