Nilesh D. Mehta, M.D., is a medical oncologist at City of Hope® Cancer Center Phoenix, where he helps diagnose and treat a wide range of cancer types and blood disorders. With more than 25 years’ experience in the field of cancer care, Dr. Mehta recognizes the importance of working closely with patients, loved ones and other cancer clinicians to develop treatment plans that are tailored to each patient’s unique diagnosis, lifestyle and health goals.
In working with patients, Dr. Mehta prioritizes getting to know them on a personal level and supporting them from day one of their cancer journey. When crafting cancer treatment regimens that may include conventional options such as chemotherapy as well as newer treatment modalities like immunotherapy and targeted therapies, Dr. Mehta also considers quality-of-life and supportive care options.
After earning his medical degree at Maharaja Sayajirao University in Baroda, India, Dr. Mehta completed a residency in internal medicine at Louis A. Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago, where he also served as chief resident. He then pursued a medical oncology and hematology fellowship at the University of Chicago. In addition to having multiple peer-reviewed publications and collaborating on several clinical trials, Dr. Mehta is a professor of medicine at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago.
Outside of City of Hope, Dr. Mehta is a reporter and commentator for the sport of cricket and a U.S. doubles champion in the game of carrom, which originated in India.
