Dr. Zerhouni pursued medical training at Johns Hopkins University, after which she served as a resident in general surgery at the University of California San Francisco, East Bay, and a fellow in colon and rectal surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Florida. She was also a research fellow at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, conducting studies aimed at expanding access to surgical care. While a medical student, she studied tuberculosis in South Africa.
Dr. Zerhouni has been published in numerous medical journals for her cancer research and she has spoken about her studies at several events. For instance, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons invited Dr. Zerhouni to give a podium presentation on her research on the effects of the Affordable Care Act on colorectal cancer screening at its annual scientific meeting. Before coming to City of Hope, she was a member of the clinical faculty at Ross University School of Medicine in Florida and Kaiser Permanente Northern California in Oakland.
