Who Should Be Screened for Lung Cancer

Smoking causes 90% of new lung cancer diagnoses, which is why it’s recommended that those with a smoking history be screened for lung cancer. Annual lung cancer screenings with an LDCT scan are recommended for those who:
- Are between the ages of 50 and 80
- Currently smoke or who have quit smoking within the past 15 years
- Have a 20-plus pack-year smoking history
A pack-year is the number of packs smoked per day, multiplied by the number of years. For example, if you smoked one pack of cigarettes per day for 20 years, that equals a 20 pack-year.
