Hatem Halabi, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a surgical oncologist at City of Hope® Cancer Center Chicago.
Dr. Halabi’s areas of clinical practice include evaluating and treating gynecologic, colorectal and gastric cancers using advanced techniques and technologies. These include minimally invasive and robotic surgeries, which are designed to offer greater precision, faster recovery and fewer complications, and sophisticated procedures such as cytoreductive surgery in combination with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) for advanced cancer and hepatic artery infusion (HAI) therapy for colorectal cancers that have metastasized to the liver. Dr. Halabi is dedicated to empowering and educating patients throughout their cancer journeys.
Born and raised in Lebanon, Dr. Halabi completed his undergraduate and medical studies at the American University in Beirut. He went on to complete an internship, residency and fellowship in surgery at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia, and a surgical oncology fellowship at The Institute for Cancer Care at Mercy Health Services in Baltimore. He also studied translational research in clinical oncology at the National Cancer Institute.
Dr. Halabi has presented on his work widely and published numerous peer-reviewed articles in leading medical journals. He is board-certified in general surgery and is an active member of the Society of Surgical Oncology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology, as well as a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
