Betty Ferrell Lab

Haley Buller, MSHSC, is an Administrative Program Manager for the ELNEC Project at City of Hope in Duarte, California. She currently serves as project director for two of Dr. Ferrell’s NCI grant-funded training programs: one focused on palliative care training for oncology advanced practice nurses and another designed to help oncology nurses improve care for patients participating in clinical trials. She holds a master’s degree in Health and Strategic Communication with an emphasis in patient-provider communication, from Chapman University in Orange, California. She has served as adjunct faculty in the School of Communication and the Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences at Chapman University. Working alongside Dr. Betty Ferrell, she has co-authored several peer-reviewed publications on palliative care communication and serves as faculty for the ELNEC Communication course.

Andrea Garcia-Ortiz, MBA, is a Supervisor for Nursing Research and Education at City of Hope in Duarte, California, where she leads the operational and administrative coordination of educational and research initiatives. Her primary focus is the ELNEC project, a national and international educational initiative to improve palliative care. In addition to her work at City of Hope, Andrea served for more than a decade as Senior Associate Editor of the Journal of Hospice & Palliative Nursing. She holds a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Management and Leadership from the University of La Verne, as well as a Project Management Professional certificate.

Ryan Tejada, B.S., serves as a Senior Coordinator for the ELNEC Project at City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center in Duarte, California, and has been a member of the team for four years. In this role, he supports the ELNEC summits, which provides palliative care education for nurses, and coordinates the Schools of Nursing Project, which promotes palliative care education for undergraduate and graduate nursing students. Ryan earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Science from California State University, Los Angeles.

Maribel Tejada, B.S., is the Senior Coordinator for the ELNEC Project at City of Hope in Duarte, California. With 17 years of service at City of Hope, she has spent the last five years directly supporting the ELNEC project. In her current role, she manages the annual ELNEC Summits and serves as the senior coordinator for a NCI grant-funded course led by Dr. Betty Ferrell that focuses on palliative care training for oncology advanced practice nurses. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Science with an emphasis in public health from California State University, Los Angeles.

Lilian (Lily) Correa is a Research Coordinator with the Division of Nursing Research and Education and ELNEC at City of Hope in Duarte, California, where she has worked for 18 years. She supports the coordination of ELNEC programs, conferences, and educational activities, working closely with faculty, participants, and the ELNEC team on travel, event logistics, and day-to-day program operations. She enjoys being part of a team dedicated to advancing palliative care education for nurses and other health care professionals.

Andrea Hayward is a Research Coordinator with 23 years of service at City of Hope, supporting Dr. Betty Ferrell in the Division of Nursing Research and Education. She has contributed to numerous research projects focused on the quality of life of patients and family caregivers.
