Assistant Professor of Pediatrics YunZu (Michele) Wang, M.D., chose a career in medicine because it combined her interest in science with a desire to make a positive difference in the lives of children. At City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte, Dr. Wang sees pediatric patients with a wide range of conditions, including sickle cell disease, thalassemia, leukemia and lymphoma. She specializes in pediatric bone marrow transplantation and gene therapy, giving back to the Southern Californian community where she grew up.
Dr. Wang graduated from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, before completing a pediatrics internship and residency, followed by a hematology-oncology fellowship at the University of California, San Diego/Rady Children’s Hospital. She also completed a subspecialty fellowship in pediatric bone marrow transplantation at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Ohio, where she served as an instructor and then assistant professor of clinical pediatrics.
Board-certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics in pediatrics and pediatric hematology-oncology, Dr. Wang is a member of the American Society of Hematology, the American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy, the American Society for Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and the American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy.
In addition to her work caring for patients in the hospital and clinic, Dr. Wang has published in multiple peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Clinical Investigation and Blood Advances, and served as principal investigator on several grant-funded research projects.
