Walks will be hosted in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Atlanta, Chicago and Orange County, California or (virtually) in your own community. There are so many reasons to walk — every participant has their own incredibly personal and moving tribute to hope. But the commitment we all share is to one day end cancer for all. Here, we share our stories about why we walk.
How many walks have you attended?
This is my first Walk for Hope, and my team and I can’t wait.
Why do you walk?
I am walking to raise awareness (and funds!) to support City of Hope Orange County’s lifesaving cancer research and treatments.
I was first diagnosed with lung cancer in 2017, and I've been a patient at City of Hope Orange County since April 2023. I feel so lucky and grateful that my cancer is stable, and I'm filled with hope for the future, all because of the kinds of research conducted at City of Hope Orange County. So now, it's time to give back!
What’s your connection to City of Hope®?
I’m a grateful patient at City of Hope Orange County and a survivor of non-small cell lung cancer.
Who will you be walking with this year?
My little team, 'Mama Michelle's Lucky Ducks', consists of friends, family, and co-workers — all of whom have been so supportive during my cancer journey.
Where will you be walking?
We’ll be walking City of Hope’s Orange County campus in Irvine, California.
What part of City of Hope’s mission speaks to you directly and why?
After 7 years of battling cancer, I know clinical trials like the one I’m participating in at City of Hope Orange County mean life. But clinical trials are only available if funding supports their research. I’m passionate about supporting lung cancer advocacy and breakthrough cancer research so that patients can live, thrive, and one day be cured.
