Center for Bioinnovation and Manufacturing
The Center for Bioinnovation and Manufacturing (CBM) at City of Hope® collaborates with academic and industry partners in both the clinical and biopharmaceutical fields to translate leading-edge research into real-world solutions.
CBM is a not-for-profit center that focuses on translating innovative therapies to Phase 1 and 2 clinical trials. The CBM includes process and analytical development, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), quality control and quality assurance teams, as well as the Office of IND Development and Regulatory Affairs. Its laboratories include three development labs, two GMP facilities and support spaces, which together span over 30,000 square feet.
History of Our Center
Founded in 2000, the GMP capabilities at City of Hope started with lentivirus productions, which later were expanded to include other viral technologies. Over the past decade, the CBM has expanded GMP capabilities to include stem cell products, projects largely funded by the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine. As one of the most extensive and advanced cancer research and treatment organizations in the United States, we annually manufacture a large number of CAR T therapies to treat patients.
CBM Capabilities
The CBM offers support for the entire bioinnovation lifecycle, from process development to scale-up, manufacturing, quality control, quality assurance and regulatory affairs. Through partnerships with leading biotech companies and academic institutions nationwide, the CBM has helped accelerate the translation of state-of-the-art biotechnologies to clinical trials. In 2024, we continued our high level of productivity, resulting in the following outcomes:
