An NCI-Designated Cancer Center
City of Hope Duarte is one of only a handful of National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the United States. This designation recognizes City of Hope as a national leader in cancer care and an institute dedicated to transforming research into new, innovative treatments for cancer patients across the country and world.
#1 Hospital for Cancer in California, Top 5 in the United States
City of Hope Duarte has repeatedly been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the “Best Hospitals” for cancer in the country. These annual rankings recognize the high quality of care we provide to our patient during their cancer journey, as well as our excellent treatment outcomes and our pioneering research.
In its 2024-25 rankings, U.S News named City of Hope Duarte among the top five hospitals for cancer in the United States (the highest such ranking in California) with a top 50 ranking in the non-oncology field of urology. The pioneering cancer center was also recognized as "high-performing" for:

American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer
Our exceptional level of care, including a commitment to meeting the most rigorous standards for our patients during their time at City of Hope Duarte, has been recognized by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Commission on Cancer. The ACS awarded City of Hope its highest level of recognition for our patient-centered approach and our goals of improving cancer patients’ quality of life and health outcomes.
Nursing Magnet Designation
City of Hope’s nationally renowned nursing team has received Magnet® recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Magnet recognition is given to only 9 percent of hospitals and clinics in the United States, including City of Hope’s locations in Duarte, Atlanta, Phoenix and Chicago. One of the highest honors in nursing, the Magnet distinction recognizes City of Hope’s commitment to excellence in delivering quality care and improving patient outcomes.
