What Sets Our Los Angeles-Area Leukemia Program Apart?
- City of Hope is the leading institution providing advanced treatments for leukemia. Our innovative chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy reprograms immune cells to attack specific proteins found in cancer cells. Our advanced radiation therapy can precisely target the bone marrow where leukemia originates while minimizing damage to surrounding tissues. Our medical oncologists offer a tailored drug regimen for each patient's individual needs, and patients may also be eligible for promising new drugs through our clinical trials.
- Our bone marrow and blood stem cell transplantation program is one of the largest and most successful in the United States, treating various types of leukemia, including advanced leukemia and leukemia in high-risk patients. Blood stem cell transplantation allows our doctors to deliver greater doses of radiation and drugs to fight leukemia. We also offer nonmyeloablative (mini) transplants, a lifesaving therapy for older or weaker patients who may not tolerate standard transplants.
- City of Hope has exceptional outcomes for bone marrow and blood stem cell transplants, according to the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research. Our program is accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy and offers expertise in autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplants using cells derived from bone marrow, peripheral blood and cord blood. Furthermore, we run an ongoing long-term follow-up program to monitor for chronic side effects and improve survivorship, so you can rest assured that we'll be with you every step of the way.
- At the Gehr Family Center for Leukemia Research, our leukemia clinicians and researchers collaborate extensively to develop and evaluate new therapies for better survival and quality-of-life outcomes. The center is home to a team of scientists whose laboratory research focuses on furthering our understanding of the causes of leukemia and developing new disease-specific therapeutics.
- Our integrative approach also includes supportive care services that help you manage the physical and emotional side effects of leukemia before, during and after treatment.
