What Sets Our Los Angeles-Area Lung and Thoracic Cancer Program Apart?

Our team of thoracic specialists is highly skilled in minimally invasive, lung-sparing surgery for lung cancer. We perform one of the largest numbers of thoracic surgeries in California and are considered one of the best in the region. We were the first in our area to offer the robotic-assisted endoscopic Monarch platform, which is a safe and reliable way to diagnose patients with small, peripheral nodules in the lung.

  • We specialize in treating aggressive and late-stage lung cancer cases, even those that other institutions may have deemed untreatable.
  • Our cost-effective, low-dose computed tomography (CT) scanning technology can detect cancer earlier, which can help save lives.
  • Our robotic-assisted endoscopy technology enables bronchoscopic visualization and lung cancer diagnosis at Stage 1 or 2, resulting in a safer, quicker and more accurate diagnosis.
  • We use minimally invasive techniques, such as sputum cytology, needle biopsy, bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound, electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy, pulmonary function testing, thoracentesis, cervical mediastinoscopy and thoracoscopy.
  • Our Interventional Pulmonology Program provides the most advanced diagnostic and therapeutic interventions available, including rigid bronchoscopy, medical pleuroscopy and robot-assisted bronchoscopy.
  • We offer investigational diagnostic testing through enrollment in our clinical trials. These tests are not yet available to the general public.
  • We also use precision medicine, such as targeted therapy, CAR T cell therapy and immunotherapy.
  • Molecular and genetic tests are used to tailor treatments to each patient.
  • Our lung cancer supportive care services and survivorship resources are exceptional.
  • Our comprehensive tobacco dependency program uses various strategies to help patients quit smoking for good. Our Smoking Cessation Program combines medications, behavioral strategies, problem-solving and social support to help patients successfully stop smoking.
  • Our collaborative approach, combined with our dedication to advancing cancer care, results in superior lung cancer survival outcomes compared to Los Angeles SEER registry data. That's why we regularly take on complex lung cancer cases, including those deemed untreatable at other facilities.
  • We also offer advanced surgical techniques, including robotic thoracic surgery and minimally invasive techniques.
  • Our medical oncology program is a national leader in precision medicine, and we continue to find new and innovative ways to provide personalized, patient-centered therapies.
  • Our team of thoracic specialists uses advanced screening technology to provide the most accurate lung cancer diagnosis, leading to the most effective treatment.
  • At City of Hope, you are steps away from labs where exciting new therapies for lung cancer are being developed. Our award-winning lung cancer research moves quickly from the lab to our patients' bedside. Our patients have access to a wide variety of lung cancer clinical trials, including the newest immunotherapy treatment and targeted therapy approaches, all with the goal of helping extend life.
