Division of Interventional Radiology
The interventional radiology team at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte uses leading-edge, image-guided therapies and technologies to diagnose, treat and manage many types of cancer.
Our Duarte team of world-class interventional radiologists offers patients in and around Los Angeles access to minimally invasive, highly targeted treatment options that can deliver cancer therapies directly to the tumor. This level of precision means that patients recover faster, more comfortably and with far fewer post-procedure side effects — allowing us to treat cancers and patients who once were told they had few if any options for quality of life or survival.
Clinical Expertise Combined with Advanced Imaging Technology
Our interventional radiologists perform a wide range of image-guided therapy procedures that use advanced technologies and small incisions to detect or treat cancer. By avoiding the need for large incisions and major surgery, patients experience less pain, improved recovery and better outcomes.
Many of these procedures are performed on an outpatient basis, offering greater levels of comfort and convenience for our patients.
Advanced image fusion is a technique that involves combining data from multiple imaging modalities, such as ultrasound, computed tomography or fluoroscopy, allowing our physicians to perform image-guided therapy procedures in a highly targeted, precise way.
The interventional radiologists at City of Hope are experts in a variety of advanced ablation techniques – minimally invasive procedures that use extreme heat or cold or certain kinds of electric fields or frequencies to treat and destroy tumors throughout the body.
By combining innovative treatment techniques such as radiofrequency or cryotherapy with advanced imaging technologies, our image-guided therapy clinicians can perform procedures that are designed to help manage pain associated with cancer and its treatments.
Using image-guided techniques in combination with direct visualization through endoscopy, our interventional radiology team can more accurately and precisely diagnose and treat cancers and other disorders affecting parts of the biliary system, including the gallbladder, bile ducts and liver.
The Division of Interventional Radiology works with your multidisciplinary care team to create a personalized treatment plan that incorporates targeted, image-guided therapies combined with other treatments, with the goal of achieving better outcomes and improving quality of life.
