City of Hope’s Mobile Cancer Prevention and Screening Program

Kristen is the Operations Program Manager of City of Hope’s Mobile Cancer Prevention and Screening Program. She played a key role in building the front office operations of the mobile program since the start of her Administrative Fellowship in July 2023. When her fellowship ended, she transitioned to her current role to support the mobile program full-time. Kristen began her hospital administration career supporting plastic and reconstructive surgery for cancer patients. She received her Master’s in Public Health from the University of California, Los Angeles, and her Bachelors of Science in Health Science from Boston University.

With a deep-rooted connection to cancer through her family history and firsthand experience caring for patients, she is dedicated to making prevention education and screenings accessible to everyone in the community. Her goal is to emphasize the vital role of early detection in saving lives. 

Outside of work, Kristen enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking, and exploring Southern California. She also has a passion for traveling and trying new cuisines.  

Carrie joined City of Hope as an X-ray technologist in 2011 and since that time, she went on to get her mammography license and has been working the last few years doing both x-ray & mammography exams. Carrie feels that as women, we tend to put our healthcare needs last and hopes to reach more women where travel and time are obstacles. By providing screening mammograms on the mobile clinic, we will increase access for women to have their cancer screening needs met in their local community. 

As a 3rd generation healthcare worker and a native of Southern California, she loves going to Disneyland with her family and being a yorkie mom. She feels incredibly lucky to be working with such an awesome team and looks forward to meeting you!

Mary is one of the receptionists on the Mobile Cancer Prevention and Screening Program. With 8 years of experience as a receptionist in both Urgent Care and Primary Care settings, she brings a strong background in medical office operations and customer service. Over the past 15 years, she has honed her skills in customer service, ensuring positive patient experiences and efficient office management.

She is bilingual and graduated from the Southern California School of Interpretation, enabling her to effectively communicate with diverse patient populations. Additionally, she holds an Accounting Certification, providing her with a solid foundation in managing financial records and supporting administrative tasks.

She is well-known among her colleagues for her positive perspective and bubbly personality, contributing to a welcoming and uplifting work environment.

Outside of work, she enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking and walking, dancing, and spending quality time with her family. She also volunteers at her church, where she finds fulfillment in giving back to her community and supporting others. These activities help her maintain a healthy, balanced lifestyle and reinforce her commitment to service both professionally and personally.

Adriana has had the privilege of working in the medical field since the age of 16, beginning her journey as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). After graduating high school, she obtained her Medical Assistant Certificate and gained experience in 20 different specialties, where she had her first encounter with hematology oncology. From that moment, she knew she wanted to continue in the field of oncology, and for the past seven years, she has had the honor of working with City of Hope.

She began her career at City of Hope as a float for the community sites, mastering a total of 14 different hematology oncology specialties. Her work in the mobile clinic became even more personal when her grandfather was diagnosed with cancer. This experience reinforced her belief in the importance of cancer education and early detection, inspiring her to dedicate herself to making a difference in how cancer is understood and approached.

In her spare time, Adriana enjoys being creative, crafting with her Cricut machine, and reading—especially books by her favorite author, Mitch Albom. The Five People You Meet in Heaven remains one of her most inspirational reads. She also loves traveling and staying active by playing volleyball and pickleball with her amazing husband.

Consuela Johnson is a Nurse Navigator for City of Hope’s Mobile Clinic, dedicated to helping patients access quality care. With 19 years in healthcare, including 9 as an RN, she is passionate about bridging gaps in care and advocating for health equity. Her inspiration for nursing began as a teenager, accompanying her grandmother to LA County Hospital for lupus and diabetes treatment, which sparked her commitment to patient advocacy. 

She holds an Associate’s of Science of Nursing from East Los Angeles College, a Bachelor’s of Science of Nursing from Westerns Governors University and a Master’s in Nursing Leadership from Western Governors University. Previously, she spent 18 years at Huntington Hospital, specializing in medical-telemetry and serving as a COVID nurse. In 2022, she improved patient outcomes by implementing staff education on implicit bias and cultural humility. 

Outside of work, Consuela enjoys hosting family gatherings, watching sports (Go Dodgers & Eagles!), reading, and spending time with her husband, two kids, and two dogs.

Jessica is the manager of City of Hope’s mobile cancer prevention and screening program. She has been helping to build the program from the ground up, from developing the clinical processes to creating new community partnerships to leading a diverse team with both clinical and operational personnel. On top of all this, she’s becoming an expert in truck maintenance!

With more than 10 years of experience as an ICU nurse, Jessica’s passion is bridging the gap between clinicians and administrators to better improve patient satisfaction and outcomes. Before her current position, Jessica was an Administrative Fellow at City of Hope and implemented a new medication waste system throughout the entire medical center. She received her Master’s in Public Health from the University of California, Los Angeles, and her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Rochester. She became interested in nursing when she lost her father to lung cancer at the age of five. Jessica is from Rochester, New York and enjoys running, playing soccer, good pizza and baking anything with lemon.

Joseph Tran is the Registered Nurse who plays a pivotal role in the community by providing education on cancer prevention and screening services available, consenting individuals to research studies, drawing labs for genetic testing, administering vaccines, and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Joseph began his nursing journey at Intercommunity Hospital where he honed his skills on a Cardiac Unit for two years delivering exceptional care to a diverse patient population. Joseph demonstrated a desire to contribute to public health and transitioned to Los Angeles County Department of Public Health as a COVID Case Manager for schools and healthcare facilities for 2.5 years prior to joining City of Hope. 

At home, Joseph loves hanging out with his two dogs (Corgi and German Shepherd), going on long-walks with his wife and dogs, and watching sports (Lakers Nation!). He also enjoys exploring different food cuisines all around the world.

Alfonso is currently the driver for the Mobile Cancer Prevention and Screening Program. He joined City of Hope as a shuttle driver in 2020 and enjoyed providing transportation to patients to ease their medical needs. As the Mobile Clinic Driver, he gives our team the opportunity to reach out to communities and bring cancer screenings to them. Alfonso has over two decades of experience as a licensed Commercial Driver where he started in public transportation and quickly moved to medical transportation, including the delivery of medicines and machines. Working in the medical community has given Alfonso a unique outlook to the many transportation barriers patients and families often experience. 

In his spare time, Alfonso ventures out to amusement parks and museums with his family. He and his wife love to go to the beach and watch their son and daughter play in the ocean. During basketball season, Alfonso helps coach his son's basketball team. His younger daughter keeps everyone busy with frequent bike rides at the Santa Fe dam.
