Division of Neurosurgery

City of Hope’s Division of Neurosurgery provides surgical treatment for benign and malignant brain, spine and pituitary tumors. Our physicians, who are nationally-recognized experts in neurosurgery and neuro-oncology, not only employ today’s most advanced therapies but are also on the leading edge of research and discovery.

Our skilled neurosurgeons use techniques to target tumors with greater accuracy than ever before, resulting in the most complete removal of tumors possible while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue. They're experts in minimally invasive surgical techniques, which allow for smaller incisions, less post-operative pain, fewer complications and faster recovery times.

City of Hope’s neurosurgeons work diligently with other members of a patient’s medical team to create a sophisticated, coordinated multidisciplinary treatment approach, with active involvement of our Brain Tumor Team – neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologists, radiation oncologists, support staff and social services – in order to provide optimal treatment for each patient’s particular case.

In addition to providing outstanding, comprehensive, individualized care, City of Hope surgeons are also dedicated to developing treatments that kill tumor cells while preserving precious brain function. They are experts in translational medicine – that is, translating laboratory science breakthroughs and research into treatments for patients.

New approaches being tested by City of Hope physicians include targeted minimally invasive techniques to remove brain tumors and deliver localized chemotherapy treatment all in one procedure, as well as MRI-guided therapy that delivers gene therapy directly into brain tumors.
