For 50 years, City of Hope® has advanced bone marrow transplantation, transforming a once-experimental therapy into a standard of care. Philanthropic support helped make that transformation possible, giving thousands of patients a second chance at life. Inspired by family, service and a shared industry commitment to hope, Greg Welchans is leading NBPI’s 2026 Spirit of Life® campaign to help advance City of Hope® and TGen research and care for patients, families and veterans.

Through its partnership with City of Hope®, Darvin Furniture & Mattress is using its trusted community platform to help raise awareness of advanced cancer care across Chicagoland. 

Donna McNutt was 54 years old when she was diagnosed with Stage 4 multiple myeloma, a rare blood cancer that forms in plasma cells of the immune system.

Thousands of City of Hope employees gathered at events across the country for the relaunch of the Hope Starts With Us employee giving program.

The costs of a cancer diagnosis go well beyond medical care. Children being treated for cancer can spend weeks or months in the hospital or recovering at home, causing them to fall behind in school.

In 2011, Frank Di Bella was diagnosed with metastatic bladder cancer and given three to four months to live by two other notable institutions. Then he came to City of Hope and met Sumanta K. Pal, M.D., assistant clinical professor, Department of Medical Oncology & Therapeutics Research and co-director of the Kidney Cancer Program.
